CONSTRUCTION NOTICE: Silver Eel Corner Ferry Ramp to be Replaced
The Fishers Island Ferry District’s Corner Ramp Replacement Project is scheduled to start soon after Labor Day. This ramp is on the south side of Silver Eel Cove on Fishers Island, NY. It was built in 1996 and was last serviced/overhauled in 2012. It mainly serves ferry traffic during heavy north and west winds and for the special construction and equipment charter ferries often run by Cross Sound.
What does this mean?
- Our Corner Ferry ramp will be out of service between September 8 and December 1, 2026.
- Fishers Island Ferry service weather related disruptions can be expected during this period, and our ferries may be limited to only passenger, or passenger and car/small-vehicle traffic only.
- Our primary north ramp cannot accommodate loading and unloading vehicles during wind events reaching 30kts out of the west and north.
- Side loading and unloading of ferry passengers at Fishers Island will occur during wind events. Cars and most freight will NOT be carried during these trips.
- If there are no wind events this fall then the ferry will run as scheduled.
How to plan ahead!
- Leave your car. If weather reports indicate a wind event, we recommend leaving a car in New London or on Fishers Island at the ferry parking lot. That way you will have access to your car during your time on or off the island as the ferry may be limited to passenger-only traffic.
- Check for Notifications of weather-related cancellations. Announcements will be made as early as possible through this website www.fiferry.com, social media – Facebook & IG @fishers_island_ferry, and FishersIsland.net.
- Include your contact information. Make sure your phone number and email address are included when making a reservation. Customers with reservations will be notified directly by text.
