Elizabeth Airfield (OB8) By The Numbers

Elizabeth Field (OB8) was dedicated on July 11, 1931 and was named in honor of Elizabeth Nugent, daughter of Colonel George A. Nugent, commander of Fort H. G. Wright.

OB8 HAS TWO RUNWAYS
  • Runway 7/25 is 1800 feet long
  • Runway 12/30 is 2400 feet long.
LANDINGS
  • 2024 we saw 1763 airplane landings
    502 of those landings were commercial.
    11 were Military
    All other landings were general aviation
  • 2023 we had 1818 landings
    708 were commercial
    20 were military
LANDING FEES
  • The Ferry District collected $46,500 in landing fees in 2024
  • All landings are tracked wirelessly.
FAA GRANTS
  • Airport improvements are supported by the FAA through annual grants.
  • Runway repaving is ongoing and will be done in phases that started in 2024 and is anticipated to take 4 years.
  • FAA grants pay 90% of any project followed by New York State paying 5% and the Fishers Island Ferry District paying 5%.
  • 2024 Paving was a $1.4mm project with the ferry contributing $70,000.
  • 2025 paving is a $2.4mm project and will include a 2 week airport closure sometime this spring.
