New engines. Recently the Munnatawket returned from the shipyard with new Cummins QSM-11 engines. These new engines are low emission and fuel efficient replacing the Perkins Diesel engines that have been in service since the day she was launched in 1977.
Dredging. We had hoped to have the entrance channel to Silver Eel Cove dredged by now however, bids came back much higher than budgeted. We expect to re-bid and complete the work by next season.
Freight Building. Walsh Park tells us that permits are nearly in place for the complete exterior renovation of the freight building and installation of six apartments on the second floor. While we do anticipate some freight service interruptions at times, we are working closely with the contractor to minimize the service interruptions.
Federal Highway funding. This winter the Ferry District learned that the Federal Highway Administration has designated over $500,000 to be used by the Ferry District on Ferry and Terminal related projects.
Deadline to exchange "old" tickets and ticket books was October 1, 2018.
On February 15, 2019 certain freight rates changed. Most of the changes are on small items going from $2.50 to $3.00. The only substantive change will be a change in board feet. Currently all board feet is at 10 cents per bf. Going forward it will be tiered for lumber up to 10 feet at 10 cents per bf, up 19 feet at 15 cents per bf and over 19 feet at 20 cents per board foot. Winthrop Street Garage (Across from Holiday Inn) $65/MONTH; $10/day; $25/per weekend.
Fishers Island Ferry has limited available parking @$20/day M-Th and $40/day Fri - Sun.
