Suffolk County has awarded H&L Contracting out of Hauppauge, NY the contract for dredging of the channel into Silver Eel Cove.

The contractor is expected to mobilize to the site on Wednesday, November 17th and work around the clock. A total of 1700 cubic yards will be removed. With a production goal of 400 cubic yards per day the work should take 4-5 days to complete, weather permitting. The ferry schedule should not be affected.

The Fishers Island Ferry District have been talking about the dredging of the Silver Eel channel and the anticipated Ferry Park since early 2019. The Ferry put the Dredge project out to bid in 2019 but the results far exceeded what was budgeted and the bids were subsequently rejected. Since then, with the help of our County Legislator Al Krupski, Suffolk County has added the Silver Eel channel to their Dredge program. As of March 2021 Suffolk County has confirmed it will fund the Silver Eel project.

Ferry Park (planned for the area north of the Coast Guard Station) is going to happen, but has been delayed due to our anticipated dredging.
